Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Capital Goods, Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.33%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL), which rose 4.11% or 21.40 points to trade at 542.10 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 1.83% or 37.75 points to end at 2100.60 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 1.05% or 5.95 points to 572.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 2.84% or 15.90 points to trade at 544.35 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 2.51% or 7.35 points to end at 285.25 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 1.44% or 16.95 points to 1145.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which rose 0.90% to 947.85, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 0.88% to settle at 571.95 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 0.78% to close at 1847.05.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 2.36% to 285.40 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.16% to settle at 363.80 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.93% to 1334.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1373 to 247 and 32 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2106 fell and 498 advanced, while 110 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.09% to 13.3150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.16% or 2.10 to $1295.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.39% or 0.25 to hit $64.50 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.35% or 1.02 to trade at $74.27 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 67.156, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 78.5361.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 94.00.
