Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 3.97% or 5.80 points to trade at 152.20 at the close. Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) added 1.74% or 373.50 points to end at 21871.05 and GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) was up 1.79% or 6.15 points to 349.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which lost 4.28% or 8.10 points to trade at 181.20 in late trade. Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) declined 4.15% or 11.15 points to end at 257.70 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 2.55% or 13.30 points to 507.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 4.28% to 152.35, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.38% to settle at 2950.25 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.13% to close at 2766.65.
The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.99% to 181.65 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which lost 3.42% to settle at 91.65 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 2.53% to 1008.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 909 to 683 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1385 fell and 1167 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.31% to 14.9400 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.64% or 8.25 to $1294.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.69% or 0.96 to hit $55.70 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.79% or 1.19 to trade at $65.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 70.015, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 78.5550.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 97.387.
