Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.20% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 1.88% or 7.75 points to trade at 419.75 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) added 1.84% or 1.55 points to end at 85.70 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was up 1.27% or 25.75 points to 2052.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 7.89% or 37.15 points to trade at 433.80 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 7.46% or 13.45 points to end at 166.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 3.43% or 12.85 points to 361.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.36% to 422.05, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 1.28% to settle at 2053.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.24% to close at 1019.65.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 7.89% to 433.90 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 3.46% to settle at 361.25 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 3.10% to 527.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 850 to 753 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1354 fell and 1199 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.96% to 20.9900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.62% or 11.90 to $1895.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.38% or 0.15 to hit $39.95 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.23 to trade at $41.95 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 73.489, while EUR/INR rose 0.00% to 86.0550.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 94.043.
