Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 3.06% or 48.20 points to trade at 1,625.40 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 2.28% or 70.60 points to end at 3,165.50 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was up 1.70% or 107.90 points to 6,446.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which lost 2.62% or 37.90 points to trade at 1,409.70 in late trade. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 1.90% or 5.65 points to end at 291.95 and Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) shed 1.55% or 51.75 points to 3,277.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 2.93% to 1,622.35, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.22% to settle at 3,164.85 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 1.55% to close at 1,881.20.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 2.64% to 1,409.80 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 1.54% to settle at 3,277.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.03% to 2,928.95 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1430 to 1047 and 104 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2205 rose and 1591 declined, while 89 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.43% to 11.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.40% or 10.60 to $2,670.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.53% or 0.36 to hit $67.81 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.32 to trade at $71.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.83, while EUR/INR fell 0.44% to 92.92.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 100.84.
