Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.02% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 6.43% or 295.00 points to trade at 4,883.70 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 1.87% or 84.40 points to end at 4,604.00 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 1.31% or 8.95 points to 694.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL), which lost 3.07% or 75.75 points to trade at 2,389.20 in late trade. Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) declined 2.91% or 27.75 points to end at 925.00 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) shed 2.59% or 130.90 points to 4,915.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which rose 1.29% to 1,710.00, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.22% to settle at 1,267.55 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 0.78% to close at 1,689.10.
The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.87% to 2,394.00 in late trade, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which lost 2.12% to settle at 2,188.35 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.93% to 373.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1350 to 1104 and 161 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2067 rose and 1697 declined, while 91 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.16% to 14.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.33% or 34.50 to $2,552.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $68.42 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $72.30 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 84.48, while EUR/INR fell 0.48% to 88.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.53% at 106.94.
