Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 3.25% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 3.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 10.56% or 151.75 points to trade at 1,589.15 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) added 9.48% or 78.70 points to end at 909.05 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 9.47% or 34.00 points to 393.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 1.34% or 63.45 points to trade at 4,670.00 in late trade. LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM) declined 1.13% or 53.10 points to end at 4,648.80 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 0.57% or 7.60 points to 1,316.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 9.60% to 909.80, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 9.50% to settle at 393.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 9.07% to close at 338.00.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 0.35% to 1,455.00 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 0.22% to settle at 1,319.90 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 0.13% to 2,874.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1445 to 799 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2218 rose and 1601 declined, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 14.90% to 20.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.12% or 2.80 to $2,348.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.35% or 0.27 to hit $76.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.22 to trade at $80.89 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.38% to 83.14, while EUR/INR fell 0.51% to 90.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 104.68.
