Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Carbon sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 2.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which rose 5.42% or 82.85 points to trade at 1612.00 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 5.26% or 7.20 points to end at 144.10 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 5.15% or 36.85 points to 752.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which lost 2.01% or 11.40 points to trade at 555.00 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 1.55% or 3.50 points to end at 222.60 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 1.43% or 64.20 points to 4430.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which rose 5.18% to 1608.30, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 4.79% to settle at 750.15 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 4.36% to close at 643.00.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 1.48% to 222.60 in late trade, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which lost 1.26% to settle at 4432.50 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 1.09% to 2947.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1084 to 503 and 99 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1529 rose and 876 declined, while 574 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.20% to 24.1675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.11% or 20.10 to $1785.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.67% or 1.03 to hit $62.70 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.77% or 1.14 to trade at $65.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 72.451, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 87.8250.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 90.368.
