Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.24%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which rose 6.14% or 37.70 points to trade at 645.20 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 4.64% or 7.10 points to end at 160.25 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 4.43% or 15.05 points to 354.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 0.30% or 7.85 points to trade at 2623.75 in late trade. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) added 0.24% or 6.65 points to end at 2774.70 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 0.35% or 8.90 points to 2525.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 4.67% to 160.15, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.13% to settle at 490.60 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 3.63% to close at 144.05.
The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 0.56% to 2628.45 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.30% to settle at 1733.60 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.16% to 2778.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 992 to 587 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1442 rose and 1073 declined, while 142 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.65% to 17.0550.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.22% or 2.95 to $1347.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $56.32 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.33 to trade at $66.12 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.24% to 71.121, while EUR/INR fell 0.21% to 80.6750.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.370.
