Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Banking and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.91%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which rose 3.18% or 54.65 points to trade at 1773.35 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 3.02% or 34.65 points to end at 1183.35 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 2.85% or 17.00 points to 614.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which lost 5.60% or 54.95 points to trade at 929.65 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 3.06% or 8.50 points to end at 269.35 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) shed 2.61% or 5.90 points to 219.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which rose 2.97% to 1638.20, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.96% to settle at 615.25 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which gained 2.95% to close at 1771.75.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 3.07% to 192.35 in late trade, Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which lost 2.83% to settle at 219.85 and Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 1.94% to 276.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1021 to 600 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1539 fell and 1032 advanced, while 151 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.27% to 16.6825.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.50 to $1204.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.67% or 0.48 to hit $72.56 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.99% or 0.80 to trade at $81.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.34% to 72.665, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 85.4695.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 93.75.
