Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Banking and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.85%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.85%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL), which rose 4.67% or 44.60 points to trade at 999.50 at the close. Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) added 3.67% or 349.30 points to end at 9,874.85 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) was up 3.63% or 5.34 points to 152.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which lost 1.89% or 8.40 points to trade at 434.90 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 1.47% or 19.90 points to end at 1,329.35 and Trent Ltd (NS:TREN) shed 1.35% or 95.40 points to 6,968.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which rose 4.73% to 1,000.00, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 3.74% to settle at 152.45 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.63% to close at 1,170.00.
The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.86% to 480.55 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 0.79% to settle at 2,892.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.67% to 1,753.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1598 to 857 and 121 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2315 rose and 1453 declined, while 104 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.12% to 16.00.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 1.85 to $2,748.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.39% or 0.28 to hit $71.75 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.31 to trade at $75.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.07% to 84.10, while EUR/INR rose 0.09% to 91.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 103.67.
