Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Banking and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.49%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 3.12% or 20.30 points to trade at 670.10 at the close. ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) added 2.55% or 7.25 points to end at 290.40 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 1.65% or 32.35 points to 1994.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which lost 3.84% or 13.60 points to trade at 341.35 in late trade. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) declined 3.95% or 9.80 points to end at 239.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 3.40% or 11.95 points to 340.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.94% to 670.05, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.29% to settle at 290.70 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 2.09% to close at 183.10.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 3.07% to 186.40 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 2.44% to settle at 479.35 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.51% to 2929.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 952 to 624 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1420 fell and 1096 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.74% to 15.2700.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.35% or 4.55 to $1281.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.13% or 1.06 to hit $50.84 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.91% or 1.12 to trade at $59.84 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.60% to 70.555, while EUR/INR rose 0.71% to 80.7975.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.458.
