Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.43%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 2.66% or 67.40 points to trade at 2602.70 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 2.81% or 3.30 points to end at 120.35 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 2.42% or 8.15 points to 345.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI), which lost 4.04% or 244.50 points to trade at 5830.75 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 3.04% or 13.35 points to end at 426.45 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) shed 2.57% or 2.90 points to 109.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.97% to 346.65, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.46% to settle at 274.95 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 2.40% to close at 339.35.
The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 3.64% to 5829.75 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.97% to settle at 426.40 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 2.80% to 109.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 798 to 746 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1164 rose and 1132 declined, while 155 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.54% to 17.2350.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.60% or 9.35 to $1546.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.00% or 0.54 to hit $54.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.38 to trade at $58.64 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.13% to 72.067, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 79.3820.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 98.575.
