India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.36%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.36%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.42%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which rose 4.14% or 37.55 points to trade at 942.90 at the close. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) added 3.54% or 20.30 points to end at 595.20 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 3.31% or 97.60 points to 3042.30 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 6.36% or 35.60 points to trade at 525.75 in late trade. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) declined 3.11% or 7.75 points to end at 240.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) shed 2.36% or 38.75 points to 1596.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 3.33% to 3043.05, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 2.00% to settle at 268.05 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.66% to close at 190.10.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 6.19% to 524.75 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.93% to settle at 1596.65 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.57% to 640.55 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 972 to 612 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1559 fell and 1086 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.62% to 15.9200.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1331.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.91% or 0.56 to hit $61.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.57% or 0.37 to trade at $64.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.31% to 64.835, while EUR/INR fell 0.25% to 79.8208.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 89.81.
