Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Real Estate and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.25% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 3.91% or 13.70 points to trade at 363.75 at the close. Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 2.30% or 28.55 points to end at 1,268.10 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 1.87% or 8.00 points to 436.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included LTIMindtree Ltd (NS:LTIM), which lost 3.81% or 241.55 points to trade at 6,102.55 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 2.10% or 34.35 points to end at 1,602.75 and Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN) shed 1.82% or 22.05 points to 1,189.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 3.97% to 364.00, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 2.18% to settle at 1,266.75 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 2.09% to close at 436.95.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.32% to 1,600.00 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 1.31% to settle at 964.30 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 0.93% to 3,748.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1559 to 952 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2150 fell and 1628 advanced, while 105 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.37% to 12.40 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.19% or 5.10 to $2,682.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.75% or 0.54 to hit $71.02 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.44 to trade at $74.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 83.59, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 93.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 100.20.
