Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.25% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 2.59% or 12.35 points to trade at 488.70 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.56% or 8.10 points to end at 324.65 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 1.93% or 92.00 points to 4,850.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 1.69% or 48.00 points to trade at 2,787.55 in late trade. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) declined 1.25% or 68.85 points to end at 5,448.90 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) shed 1.08% or 27.65 points to 2,528.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.53% to 324.55, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.61% to settle at 1,371.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 1.18% to close at 7,218.95.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.34% to 2,795.90 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 0.88% to settle at 2,532.85 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.64% to 1,486.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1511 to 730 and 28 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2422 rose and 1308 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.56% to 14.39 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 3.85 to $2,330.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.19% or 0.93 to hit $78.83 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.01% or 0.83 to trade at $82.75 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 83.57, while EUR/INR rose 0.11% to 89.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 104.77.
