Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Metals and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.22% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 2.13% or 14.10 points to trade at 676.50 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) added 2.11% or 51.65 points to end at 2,498.80 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 1.86% or 17.05 points to 932.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which lost 2.53% or 143.10 points to trade at 5,504.60 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 2.19% or 33.00 points to end at 1,471.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) shed 2.14% or 62.65 points to 2,871.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which rose 1.67% to 930.45, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.56% to settle at 182.85 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which gained 1.07% to close at 1,157.00.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 1.92% to 2,875.90 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.85% to settle at 1,476.30 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.95% to 359.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1445 to 815 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2197 rose and 1508 declined, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.68% to 13.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 3.60 to $2,350.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.05% or 0.04 to hit $80.75 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.21 to trade at $85.28 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.22% to 83.61, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 89.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 105.06.
