Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 2.20% or 16.70 points to trade at 774.95 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 1.98% or 14.65 points to end at 755.50 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.81% or 22.85 points to 1287.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which lost 2.11% or 16.50 points to trade at 764.85 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 1.95% or 2.85 points to end at 143.25 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 1.68% or 7.45 points to 434.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 2.18% to 774.90, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 1.87% to settle at 755.35 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.74% to close at 1286.90.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.61% to 598.00 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.17% to settle at 1412.05 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.76% to 116.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1171 to 564 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1969 fell and 1205 advanced, while 133 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.02% to 12.6050.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.20% or 21.10 to $1742.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.82% or 2.61 to hit $65.67 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 3.66% or 2.59 to trade at $68.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.07% to 74.292, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 87.3265.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 92.812.
