Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Telecoms and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Retail and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.63%, while the MDAX index declined 0.44%, and the TecDAX index added 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which rose 1.47% or 0.275 points to trade at 18.950 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) added 0.73% or 0.550 points to end at 76.090 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 0.60% or 0.042 points to 7.019 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 4.37% or 0.540 points to trade at 11.810 in late trade. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 3.52% or 6.700 points to end at 183.450 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) shed 3.00% or 2.210 points to 71.560.
The top performers on the MDAX were Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which rose 3.23% to 12.140, Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which was up 2.90% to settle at 27.305 and RTL Group SA (DE:RRTL) which gained 2.51% to close at 77.570.
The worst performers were Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was down 4.34% to 26.80 in late trade, Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which lost 3.90% to settle at 9.07 and Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which was down 2.66% to 84.410 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which rose 5.15% to 45.390, Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was up 3.83% to settle at 50.720 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 3.51% to close at 47.725.
The worst performers were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 3.28% to 15.210 in late trade, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which lost 2.16% to settle at 4.086 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 1.79% to 44.425 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 482 to 428 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.54% to 23.04.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.53% or 6.80 to $1281.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.19% or 0.57 to hit $48.29 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.40 to trade at $49.37 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.15% to 1.1338, while EUR/GBP fell 0.42% to 0.7828.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 94.34.
