Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financial Services, Chemicals and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.57%, while the MDAX index lost 0.46%, and the TecDAX index gained 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRK), which rose 1.17% or 1.050 points to trade at 91.000 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) added 0.95% or 0.750 points to end at 79.500 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 0.88% or 0.27 points to 31.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which lost 3.11% or 0.275 points to trade at 8.560 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 2.93% or 0.345 points to end at 11.420 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) shed 2.58% or 1.960 points to 73.930.
The top performers on the MDAX were DMG Mori Seiki AG (DE:GILG) which rose 1.58% to 42.000, Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which was up 1.56% to settle at 107.650 and Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which gained 1.43% to close at 34.43.
The worst performers were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 4.10% to 45.030 in late trade, Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which lost 2.89% to settle at 27.860 and Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was down 2.83% to 25.60 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which rose 8.53% to 27.730, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 2.01% to settle at 253.250 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 1.99% to close at 53.200.
The worst performers were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 3.85% to 14.840 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 1.65% to settle at 8.870 and RIB Software AG Na (DE:RIB) which was down 1.64% to 9.227 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 559 to 280 and 24 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.92% to 21.30.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.69% or 8.45 to $1209.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $49.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.07 to trade at $49.96 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.21% to 1.1155, while EUR/GBP rose 0.99% to 0.7747.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 95.63.
