Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 2.51% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index lost 2.00%, and the TecDAX index fell 2.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (XETRA:HEIG), which rose 0.78% or 0.550 points to trade at 70.810 at the close. Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (XETRA:BMWG) fell 0.23% or 0.250 points to end at 106.500 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p) was down 1.02% or 2.350 points to 228.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG), which lost 4.01% or 2.220 points to trade at 53.200 in late trade. E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn) declined 3.76% or 0.530 points to end at 13.575 and BASF SE NA O.N. (XETRA:BASFN) shed 3.71% or 3.310 points to 85.930.
The top performers on the MDAX were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which rose 1.30% to 13.650, Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (XETRA:SY1G) which was up 1.18% to settle at 55.820 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which gained 1.04% to close at 32.535.
The worst performers were Aurubis AG (XETRA:NAFG) which was down 4.36% to 57.080 in late trade, Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which lost 3.84% to settle at 16.390 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (XETRA:BOSSn) which was down 3.74% to 108.050 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (XETRA:COPMa) which rose 4.44% to 26.565, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (XETRA:PV) which was up 3.58% to settle at 87.070 and SMA Solar Technology AG (XETRA:S92G) which gained 1.72% to close at 13.640.
The worst performers were Morphosys AG O.N. (XETRA:MORG) which was down 6.02% to 63.420 in late trade, Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which lost 5.93% to settle at 4.946 and Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was down 5.01% to 145.850 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 573 to 172 and 36 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 17.04% to 24.18 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.68% or 8.10 to $1194.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.33% or 1.96 to hit $60.89 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.54% or 1.69 to trade at $68.14 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.39% to 1.1190, while EUR/GBP fell 0.04% to 0.7367.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.41% at 95.20.
