Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.17%, while the MDAX index fell 0.71%, and the TecDAX index lost 2.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 3.32% or 0.303 points to trade at 9.416 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) added 1.39% or 0.145 points to end at 10.570 and Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) was up 1.05% or 0.790 points to 76.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING), which lost 2.50% or 3.750 points to trade at 146.050 in late trade. Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRCG) declined 2.40% or 1.840 points to end at 74.900 and BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) shed 2.23% or 1.600 points to 70.040.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which rose 2.87% to 25.950, Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was up 2.07% to settle at 24.700 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which gained 1.32% to close at 15.340.
The worst performers were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) which was down 5.18% to 27.46 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which lost 5.18% to settle at 68.880 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was down 4.64% to 33.900 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 3.95% to 5.181, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 3.23% to settle at 186.900 and Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which gained 0.46% to close at 13.140.
The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 18.84% to 60.000 in late trade, Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) which lost 6.79% to settle at 23.800 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was down 5.02% to 26.670 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 463 to 210 and 35 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 3.89% to 21.92.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.04% or 12.10 to $1177.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.86% or 0.40 to hit $46.26 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.17 to trade at $49.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.1440, while EUR/GBP fell 0.76% to 0.7406.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.58% at 94.25.
