Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.46%, while the MDAX index fell 0.49%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.75%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG), which rose 3.67% or 0.960 points to trade at 27.145 at the close. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) added 1.04% or 0.940 points to end at 91.050 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was up 0.37% or 0.045 points to 12.160 in late trade.
Biggest losers included RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which lost 3.19% or 0.680 points to trade at 20.620 in late trade. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) declined 2.29% or 0.230 points to end at 9.795 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) shed 2.19% or 0.515 points to 22.985.
The top performers on the MDAX were Metro AG (DE:MEOG) which rose 5.70% to 11.225, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was up 2.08% to settle at 124.95 and Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which gained 1.26% to close at 76.870.
The worst performers were Innogy SE (DE:IGY) which was down 3.64% to 38.520 in late trade, Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which lost 3.64% to settle at 3.65 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 3.07% to 67.600 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which rose 4.46% to 16.400, CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which was up 4.01% to settle at 48.525 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 1.88% to close at 76.850.
The worst performers were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 3.10% to 4.373 in late trade, GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which lost 2.87% to settle at 13.185 and Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which was down 2.40% to 12.825 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 513 to 242 and 33 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 12.34% to 14.09 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.59 to $1279.89 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.86% or 0.45 to hit $52.02 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.53% or 0.31 to trade at $58.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.41% to 1.1809, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.8905.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 93.54.
