Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Media sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.50%, while the MDAX index gained 0.57%, and the TecDAX index added 2.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 5.06% or 0.535 points to trade at 11.105 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) added 4.55% or 3.450 points to end at 79.310 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) was up 3.93% or 2.230 points to 58.990 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which lost 3.56% or 3.800 points to trade at 102.800 in late trade. RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) declined 3.48% or 0.440 points to end at 12.195 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) shed 0.74% or 0.070 points to 9.346.
The top performers on the MDAX were Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) which rose 3.33% to 45.500, Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was up 2.87% to settle at 60.880 and Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which gained 2.87% to close at 38.710.
The worst performers were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which was down 1.64% to 102.200 in late trade, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which lost 1.58% to settle at 8.055 and Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which was down 1.56% to 15.100 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which rose 6.45% to 10.725, BB Biotech AG (DE:BIONn) which was up 6.24% to settle at 234.150 and Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which gained 5.72% to close at 2.994.
The worst performers were Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which was down 0.88% to 59.470 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which lost 0.23% to settle at 8.231 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 0.22% to 38.200 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 473 to 201 and 39 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.92% to 21.28.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.70% or 8.20 to $1188.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.82% or 0.85 to hit $45.79 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.79% or 0.40 to trade at $49.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.57% to 1.1409, while EUR/GBP fell 0.65% to 0.7365.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 94.28.
