Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation & Logistics, Basic Resources and Consumer & Cyclical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.61% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index climbed 0.61%, and the TecDAX index added 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which rose 5.24% or 0.755 points to trade at 15.170 at the close. Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) added 2.07% or 0.645 points to end at 31.835 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was up 1.92% or 3.45 points to 183.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG), which lost 1.75% or 1.5800 points to trade at 88.8500 in late trade. Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) declined 1.20% or 1.25 points to end at 102.75 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) shed 0.96% or 0.175 points to 18.130.
The top performers on the MDAX were Leoni AG (DE:LEOGn) which rose 2.41% to 40.785, Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which was up 2.30% to settle at 57.732 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which gained 2.29% to close at 61.250.
The worst performers were Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 2.56% to 98.71 in late trade, Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which lost 1.66% to settle at 37.255 and Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which was down 1.04% to 29.035 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which rose 3.34% to 17.640, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was up 3.06% to settle at 10.615 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 3.05% to close at 26.015.
The worst performers were Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which was down 3.00% to 27.365 in late trade, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which lost 0.93% to settle at 54.490 and Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was down 0.30% to 57.170 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 475 to 259 and 30 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 19.75% to 11.70 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.31% or 27.75 to $1228.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.37% or 0.18 to hit $48.68 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.15 to trade at $51.66 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.02% to 1.0734, while EUR/GBP fell 0.63% to 0.8678.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 100.21.
