Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Food & Beverage, Basic Resources and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 1.56% to hit a new all time high, while the MDAX index added 1.84%, and the TecDAX index added 1.49%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn), which rose 4.10% or 1.140 points to trade at 28.935 at the close. Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (XETRA:HEIG) added 3.53% or 2.370 points to end at 69.590 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DBKGn) was up 3.17% or 0.845 points to 27.505 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (XETRA:HNKG_p), which lost 0.69% or 0.700 points to trade at 100.700 in late trade. Commerzbank AG O.N. (XETRA:CBKG) declined 0.31% or 0.035 points to end at 11.240 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) shed 0.31% or 0.150 points to 48.330.

The top performers on the MDAX were Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which rose 9.97% to 55.600, Gerresheimer AG (XETRA:GXId) which was up 5.27% to settle at 49.195 and Metro AG ST O.N. (XETRA:MEOG) which gained 5.26% to close at 30.610.

The worst performers were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (XETRA:MTXGn) which was down 4.75% to 79.080 in late trade, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which lost 0.31% to settle at 30.650 and Rhoen-Klinikum O.N. (XETRA:RHKG) which was down 0.22% to 22.600 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which rose 14.74% to 11.430, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which was up 7.50% to settle at 113.950 and Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which gained 5.44% to close at 3.179.

The worst performers were Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was down 2.15% to 43.100 in late trade, Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which lost 1.63% to settle at 5.991 and QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which was down 1.35% to 1.966 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 549 to 184 and 27 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 5.84% to 19.66.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.30% or 3.70 to $1223.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for delivery in March rose 3.62% or 1.77 to hit $50.61 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract rose 4.75% or 2.65 to trade at $58.58 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.65% to 1.1408, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.7417.

The US Dollar Index was down 1.02% at 94.19.
