Investing.com – China equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Travel & Leisure and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite added 0.63% to hit a new 3-year high, while the SZSE Component index gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were Hongxing Steel (SS:600307), which rose 10.05% or 0.560 points to trade at 6.130 at the close. Fenglin Wood (SS:601996) added 10.04% or 1.300 points to end at 14.250 and S Churin Group (SS:600891) was up 10.04% or 1.280 points to 14.030 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kingdom SS (SS:600446), which lost 8.69% or 19.600 points to trade at 206.000 in late trade. Tiantan Bio (SS:600161) declined 5.41% or 2.860 points to end at 49.970 and Autom Instru (SS:600848) shed 5.33% or 1.580 points to 28.080.
The top performers on the SZSE Component were Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Co Ltd (SZ:000069) which rose 10.05% to 11.72, Shanxi Xishan Coal and Electricity Power Co Ltd (SZ:000983) which was up 3.69% to settle at 9.84 and Changjiang Securities Co Ltd (SZ:000783) which gained 3.33% to close at 19.25.
The worst performers were Leshi Internet Info Tech (SZ:300104) which was down 4.23% to 71.72 in late trade, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co Ltd (SZ:002415) which lost 4.02% to settle at 50.20 and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd (SZ:000625) which was down 3.85% to 23.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 521 to 438 on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was up 5.28% to 31.28.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.12% or 1.40 to $1189.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.19% or 0.69 to hit $58.72 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.52 to trade at $64.24 a barrel.
USD/CNY was up 0.01% to 6.2045, while EUR/CNY rose 0.35% to 6.7728.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.30% at 97.09.
