Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 2.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV), which rose 3.58% or 0.98 points to trade at 28.34 at the close. Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF) added 3.38% or 0.130 points to end at 3.980 and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) was up 2.41% or 1.44 points to 61.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intertape Polymer Group Inc . (TSX:ITP), which lost 16.26% or 2.13 points to trade at 10.97 in late trade. Frontera Energy Corp (TSX:FEC) declined 14.65% or 0.63 points to end at 3.67 and Exchange Income Corporation (TSX:EIF) shed 12.74% or 3.10 points to 21.24.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 940 to 144 and 71 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.88% or 14.95 to $1721.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.01% or 0.26 to hit $25.52 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.00% or 0.60 to trade at $29.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7094, while CAD/EUR rose 0.19% to 0.6558.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 100.275.
