Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 1.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which rose 4.00% or 0.17 points to trade at 4.42 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) added 2.86% or 0.12 points to end at 4.32 and Detour Gold Corporation (TSX:DGC) was up 2.83% or 0.55 points to 20.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 10.34% or 0.185 points to trade at 1.605 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 10.00% or 2.89 points to end at 26.01 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) shed 8.79% or 0.42 points to 4.36.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 782 to 279 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.58% to 13.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.83% or 12.25 to $1485.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.17% or 0.09 to hit $53.98 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $59.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7562, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6916.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 98.800.
