Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which rose 7.95% or 1.02 points to trade at 13.85 at the close. Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP) added 7.14% or 1.29 points to end at 19.36 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) was up 6.06% or 0.74 points to 12.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included iA Financial (TSX:IAG), which lost 5.76% or 2.87 points to trade at 46.95 in late trade. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) declined 5.46% or 0.20 points to end at 3.46 and Norbord Inc (TSX:OSB) shed 5.41% or 2.55 points to 44.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 640 to 433 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.02% or 0.40 to $1975.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.42% or 0.18 to hit $42.79 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.28 to trade at $45.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.35% to 0.7661, while CAD/EUR rose 0.09% to 0.6421.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 92.203.
