Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI), which rose 8.69% or 1.95 points to trade at 24.40 at the close. Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) added 5.94% or 3.11 points to end at 55.46 and Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) was up 2.72% or 0.22 points to 8.31 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI), which lost 6.47% or 2.57 points to trade at 37.15 in late trade. Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) declined 3.96% or 0.25 points to end at 6.07 and Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA) shed 3.70% or 0.54 points to 14.07.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 521 to 401 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.21% to 8.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.32% or 7.55 to $2,371.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.74% or 0.61 to hit $81.72 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.82 to trade at $84.93 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 104.79.
