Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which rose 7.24% or 1.13 points to trade at 16.73 at the close. Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) added 7.20% or 1.24 points to end at 18.47 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 6.47% or 0.82 points to 13.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which lost 7.47% or 0.66 points to trade at 8.18 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) declined 5.96% or 1.30 points to end at 20.50 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) shed 4.78% or 0.58 points to 11.55.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 547 to 475 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 3.98% or 80.10 to $1933.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.32% or 0.14 to hit $42.98 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.22 to trade at $45.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.38% to 0.7564, while CAD/EUR rose 0.36% to 0.6387.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.81% at 93.002.
