Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI), which rose 9.16% or 0.71 points to trade at 8.46 at the close. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) added 5.62% or 3.83 points to end at 71.93 and Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG) was up 4.36% or 0.51 points to 12.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN), which lost 4.61% or 0.21 points to trade at 4.35 in late trade. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) declined 3.58% or 0.62 points to end at 16.70 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) shed 3.31% or 0.480 points to 14.000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 564 to 427 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.52% or 9.90 to $1899.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.37% or 0.15 to hit $41.22 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.05 to trade at $43.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7454, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6398.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 94.308.
