Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Consumer Staples and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC), which rose 13.80% or 2.44 points to trade at 20.12 at the close. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE) added 6.62% or 0.090 points to end at 1.450 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) was up 4.34% or 0.22 points to 5.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 6.22% or 26.020 points to trade at 392.020 in late trade. Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI) declined 4.38% or 2.05 points to end at 44.72 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) shed 3.90% or 1.87 points to 46.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 530 to 508 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.91% to 12.02 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.17% or 2.55 to $1490.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.53% or 0.82 to hit $54.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $59.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7639, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6866.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 97.262.
