Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 5.66% or 0.62 points to trade at 11.57 at the close. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) added 4.64% or 1.49 points to end at 33.59 and Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) was up 4.36% or 0.27 points to 6.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE), which lost 6.31% or 0.28 points to trade at 4.16 in late trade. International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) declined 6.11% or 1.10 points to end at 16.91 and Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) shed 5.98% or 0.41 points to 6.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 507 to 450 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.93% to 11.53.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.46% or 12.25 to $2,677.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.90% or 2.88 to hit $70.95 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 3.69% or 2.86 to trade at $74.60 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.30% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 103.05.
