Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 4.05% or 3.49 points to trade at 89.56 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 3.13% or 0.57 points to end at 18.81 and IGM Financial Inc . (TSX:IGM) was up 3.02% or 1.12 points to 38.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 5.99% or 0.22 points to trade at 3.45 in late trade. Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) declined 5.00% or 1.25 points to end at 23.74 and PrairieSky Royalty Ltd (TSX:PSK) shed 4.68% or 1.27 points to 25.89.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 520 to 423 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 13.44% to 11.31 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.47% or 34.90 to $2,334.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.82% or 0.67 to hit $80.62 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.61 to trade at $85.10 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 105.46.
