Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC), which rose 42.39% or 2.70 points to trade at 9.07 at the close. Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) added 9.19% or 1.9400 points to end at 23.0600 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) was up 5.43% or 1.91 points to 37.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL), which lost 6.62% or 0.290 points to trade at 4.090 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) declined 5.83% or 0.120 points to end at 1.940 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) shed 5.10% or 0.200 points to 3.720.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 609 to 474 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.30% to 12.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.06% or 14.25 to $1331.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.06% or 0.57 to hit $53.42 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $62.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7536, while CAD/EUR rose 0.00% to 0.6660.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.738.
