Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, REITs and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU), which rose 15.02% or 1.61 points to trade at 12.33 at the close. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) added 8.62% or 0.050 points to end at 0.630 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) was up 6.36% or 1.63 points to 27.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which lost 10.90% or 0.4100 points to trade at 3.3500 in late trade. SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) declined 9.24% or 1.93 points to end at 18.95 and MTY Food Group Inc (TSX:MTY) shed 8.70% or 5.50 points to 57.75.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 440 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.48% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.50% or 7.50 to $1493.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.48% or 1.33 to hit $54.88 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.64% or 1.56 to trade at $60.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.73% to 0.7577, while CAD/EUR rose 0.47% to 0.6865.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 98.045.
