Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Telecoms and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP), which rose 7.76% or 12.500 points to trade at 173.490 at the close. Cott Corporation (TO:BCB) added 6.08% or 1.11 points to end at 19.36 and Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TO:MFI) was up 4.71% or 1.35 points to 30.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TO:CPG), which lost 7.99% or 0.90 points to trade at 10.36 in late trade. Norbord Inc (TO:OSB) declined 6.23% or 3.28 points to end at 49.39 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) shed 6.00% or 0.250 points to 3.920.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 615 to 494 and 131 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.86% to 13.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.56% or 7.30 to $1312.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.79% or 0.54 to hit $68.47 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.50% or 0.37 to trade at $73.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.23% to 0.7780, while CAD/EUR fell 0.12% to 0.6487.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 92.27.
