Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC), which rose 5.49% or 0.150 points to trade at 2.880 at the close. Keyera Corp. (TO:KEY) added 5.00% or 2.04 points to end at 42.82 and Gibson Energy Inc. (TO:GEI) was up 4.87% or 1.07 points to 23.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Novagold Resources Inc. (TO:NG), which lost 5.00% or 0.24 points to trade at 4.56 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 4.24% or 0.12 points to end at 2.71 and Newalta Corporation (TO:NAL) shed 3.21% or 0.50 points to 15.09.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 739 to 680 and 195 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.12% to 14.00.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 1.40% or 16.80 to $1185.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.43% or 0.26 to hit $60.23 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.26 to trade at $63.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.40% to 0.8116, while CAD/EUR fell 0.33% to 0.7157.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.22% at 94.52.
