Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were DHX Media Ltd (TO:DHXb), which rose 6.88% or 0.60 points to trade at 9.32 at the close. Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR) added 5.90% or 5.21 points to end at 93.51 and Constellation Software Inc . (TO:CSU) was up 5.17% or 25.62 points to 520.77 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which lost 6.33% or 0.21 points to trade at 3.11 in late trade. Sherritt International Corporation (TO:S) declined 5.79% or 0.11 points to end at 1.79 and Yamana Gold Inc . (TO:YRI) shed 5.26% or 0.19 points to 3.42.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 755 to 593 and 210 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 20.91% to 11.27 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.31% or 3.60 to $1162.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.05% or 0.03 to hit $52.80 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.11 to trade at $58.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.20% to 0.7885, while CAD/EUR fell 0.83% to 0.7071.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.72% at 95.97.
