Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Clean Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 3.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Chorus Aviation Inc (TSX:CHR), which rose 28.47% or 0.78 points to trade at 3.52 at the close. Artis REIT (TSX:AX_u) added 27.27% or 1.65 points to end at 7.70 and NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) was up 25.60% or 2.45 points to 12.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX:AEM), which lost 7.89% or 5.07 points to trade at 59.16 in late trade. Waste Connections Inc (TSX:WCN) declined 6.92% or 7.57 points to end at 101.77 and Cameco Corp (TSX:CCO) shed 5.96% or 0.58 points to 9.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 981 to 158 and 51 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.41% or 23.50 to $1637.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.96% or 0.23 to hit $24.24 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.31 to trade at $27.46 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.84% to 0.7041, while CAD/EUR rose 0.87% to 0.6463.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.33% at 100.890.
