Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.95% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF), which rose 8.88% or 0.27 points to trade at 3.31 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 8.60% or 1.875 points to end at 23.685 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) was up 8.03% or 0.44 points to 5.92 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 3.02% or 1.11 points to trade at 35.59 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) declined 2.86% or 0.24 points to end at 8.16 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) shed 2.76% or 0.35 points to 12.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 614 to 410 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.14% or 2.45 to $1801.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.27% or 0.90 to hit $40.52 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.01% or 0.85 to trade at $43.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.7355, while CAD/EUR fell 0.19% to 0.6509.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.615.
