Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Utilities and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which rose 9.33% or 1.58 points to trade at 18.51 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 8.34% or 84.14 points to end at 1093.37 and Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL) was up 8.17% or 0.53 points to 7.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which lost 16.86% or 2.33 points to trade at 11.49 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) declined 11.54% or 0.060 points to end at 0.460 and ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL) shed 11.11% or 0.40 points to 3.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 485 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.21% or 3.60 to $1733.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.12% or 0.77 to hit $37.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.58% or 1.00 to trade at $39.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7366, while CAD/EUR fell 0.52% to 0.6508.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.69% at 96.655.
