Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.63% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TO:PVG), which rose 11.06% or 1.06 points to trade at 10.64 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 10.40% or 0.260 points to end at 2.760 and Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ) was up 9.78% or 0.220 points to 2.470 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CCL Industries Inc (TO:CCLb), which lost 4.23% or 2.51 points to trade at 56.87 in late trade. Superior Plus Corp (TO:SPB) declined 4.18% or 0.49 points to end at 11.23 and Cameco Corp (TO:CCO) shed 4.17% or 0.68 points to 15.64.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 762 to 366 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.15% to 14.10 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.66% or 21.95 to $1344.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.79% or 0.44 to hit $56.42 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $66.48 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7568, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6673.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 96.355.
