Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 7.00% or 0.59 points to trade at 9.02 at the close. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) added 6.14% or 0.37 points to end at 6.40 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) was up 5.08% or 0.13 points to 2.69 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT), which lost 4.33% or 1.07 points to trade at 23.63 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 4.10% or 0.12 points to end at 2.81 and Restaurant Brands Intl (TSX:QSR) shed 2.40% or 2.12 points to 86.09.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 619 to 356 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.71% to 15.59.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.66% or 12.10 to $1,843.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.67% or 0.55 to hit $82.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.40 to trade at $84.47 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 105.86.
