Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.53%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE), which rose 6.43% or 0.090 points to trade at 1.490 at the close. Ag Growth International Inc (TSX:AFN) added 6.06% or 2.31 points to end at 40.41 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 3.57% or 0.230 points to 6.680 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF), which lost 5.16% or 0.23 points to trade at 4.23 in late trade. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) declined 3.95% or 0.260 points to end at 6.320 and Exchange Income Corporation (TSX:EIF) shed 3.58% or 1.400 points to 37.710.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 502 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.60% to 13.86.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.46% or 6.90 to $1510.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $52.62 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $58.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7502, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6836.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 98.840.
