Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB), which rose 7.81% or 0.670 points to trade at 9.250 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APH) added 6.70% or 0.940 points to end at 14.970 and Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) was up 6.57% or 3.44 points to 55.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which lost 3.02% or 0.140 points to trade at 4.500 in late trade. MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO:MAXR) declined 2.67% or 1.18 points to end at 42.94 and Canadian Utilities Limited (TO:CU) shed 1.87% or 0.61 points to 31.99.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 643 to 443 and 136 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.24% to 12.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.31% or 3.80 to $1217.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.31% or 0.21 to hit $68.93 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.63% or 0.48 to trade at $76.61 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.51% to 0.7715, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6605.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 94.66.
