Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA), which rose 11.94% or 3.70 points to trade at 34.69 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 10.11% or 2.63 points to end at 28.65 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 9.85% or 0.39 points to 4.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BRP Inc (TSX:DOO), which lost 5.52% or 5.15 points to trade at 88.21 in late trade. Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS) declined 4.32% or 0.46 points to end at 10.19 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) shed 4.14% or 0.59 points to 13.67.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 566 to 423 and 91 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.38% to 22.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.29% or 23.47 to $1,839.37 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.78% or 1.90 to hit $108.94 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.93% or 2.11 to trade at $111.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.55% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.54% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.93% at 102.89.
