Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which rose 15.35% or 0.78 points to trade at 5.86 at the close. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) added 6.72% or 0.43 points to end at 6.83 and MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA) was up 5.08% or 0.69 points to 14.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp (TSX:AQN), which lost 12.60% or 1.07 points to trade at 7.42 in late trade. B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) declined 11.55% or 0.44 points to end at 3.37 and Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) shed 7.10% or 3.90 points to 51.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 516 to 394 and 92 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.95% to 15.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 5.60 to $2,468.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.00% or 0.76 to hit $76.95 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.66% or 0.52 to trade at $79.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.96.
