Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Telecoms and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which rose 41.40% or 9.94 points to trade at 33.95 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 6.76% or 0.560 points to end at 8.840 and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC) was up 6.21% or 1.45 points to 24.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which lost 6.47% or 1.290 points to trade at 18.660 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 6.43% or 0.160 points to end at 2.330 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV) shed 4.68% or 1.190 points to 24.250.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 718 to 376 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.03% to 12.54.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.30 to $1480.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.35% or 0.21 to hit $60.19 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.16 to trade at $65.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7600, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6819.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.630.
